Elie Mouyal, fervent defender of the Moroccan built heritage, has always stood out as an avant-garde architect who very early on introduced fundamental concepts to architecture today.
Graduated from UP8 in Paris (1976 to 1982) he introduced in his early years an architecture based on sustainable structural and constructive principles. The objective is to reconnect with local traditions, to implement them while adapting them to a contemporary architecture. It is a question of resuscitating in an intelligent way thousand-year-old techniques allowing the installation of constructions of unequaled comfort. The first studies on the earthen architecture of Elie Mouyal were based on the work of Hassan Fathy and his participation in the first years of the workshop "Eastern Towns", which enabled him to make several stays of studies in the Tunisian medinas. Elie Mouyal's career began as a builder, allowing him to discover what earth material can offer architecture. Beginning with an entrepreneurial cap, the architect will spend four years experimenting with all the geometric and structural potentialities that the material can offer. He then created a construction company bringing together up to 200 craftsmen and workers whom he took care to train with great care.
In 1987, Elie Mouyal opened his architecture agency in Marrakech. The choice is not trivial, the ocher city has a land of unparalleled wealth. More than 200 projects will then be carried out, particularly in the field of the development of local materials and sustainable development techniques (study, construction, decoration and landscaping). The construction of many prestigious buildings buried in flood will give rise to more than 71 publications in the national and international press.
